Early Life
George Murdoch was born in 1973 in Massachusetts, to a white American mother and a black American father who had been separated during the course of their relationship.
When it came time for Murdoch to start school, he and his brother were not welcome in their grandparents’ home due to their father’s race.
Warren and George Murdoch went to live with foster parents for a few years; however, during this time, Murdoch decided that he wanted to change his skin color so that he would be able to be reunited with his family.
He believed that once he changed his skin color, his mother would accept him again.
Tyrus attended Quartz Hill High School from 1990 to 1992 and Antelope Valley College from 1992 to 1995 before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he studied for a teaching degree.
While at Kearney, Murdoch played college football as a running back and linebacker. However, he suffered an injury that required surgery to remove a ruptured appendix, which severed nerve endings in his right leg and resulted in a permanent limp. By 1995, Murdoch’s football career had ended.
Career
Tyrus signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2006 and was then assigned to their developmental territory, Deep South Wrestling. He debuted under the ring name G-Rilla, a street thug persona who used a “You don’t wanna mess with me” catchphrase.
After making his debut, he then drafted Big Bully Douglas, who had refused to lose to Brodus Clay in a previous match.
He went on to defeat Jacob Novak and Rudy Parker before changing his ring name to Brodus Clay, a play on Snoop Dogg’s real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus.
Tyrus debuted in WWE as Brodus Clay’s bodyguard. However, he was released from the company due to budget cuts and his character was written off the television with a fake death.
He returned to WWE in 2011, but it wasn’t until 2014 that he found success, when he became a wrestler in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
At TNA’s television tapings, Tyrus won his first match by defeating Shark Boy. He and Ethan Carter III formed a tag team called The Beat Down Clan. They entered a tournament for the TNA World Tag Team Championship, defeating Rockstar Spud and Eric Young in the quarterfinals before losing to The Hardys in the semifinals.
Television Commentary Career
Since November 2016, Tyrus has made regular contributions to Fox News Channel. He began with The Greg Gutfeld Show, where he debuted as a guest commentator in March 2017. His first appearance was so well-received that host Greg Gutfeld offered him the chance to appear on the show twice monthly, using his stage name “Tyrus.”
From 2017 to 2021, Tyrus was a regular contributor on Dana Perino’s former afternoon news show, The Daily Briefing.
In 2018, Tyrus became a co-host of the show Un-PC on Fox News’s streaming channel, Fox Nation. In June 2019, he premiered his newest show, Nuff Said.
