How it is executed
MrBeast Burger is a delivery-only restaurant chain with no brick-and-mortar locations of its own. Instead, it uses the kitchens of existing restaurants to fulfill orders. Currently, MrBeast Burger has over 100 partners in the United States and Canada.
The company sells hamburgers and french fries through MrBeast Burger’s website and mobile app. Customers make an order in the delivery app and the food gets prepared at existing brick-and-mortar locations of contracted restaurants.
MrBeast Burger provides them with food supplies and branded packaging at no cost to the restaurant, allowing customers to order from their favorite restaurants without leaving their homes or spending more than they would at a brick-and-mortar location.
The key difference between other services is that all of these restaurants will offer exclusive MrBeast Burger products on their menus.
How it Started
It is not known when Donaldson started the work but he said on Twitter he will start a new venture with his YouTube channel manager Will Hyde while Reed Duchscher, another manager, stated that it had been planned for over a year.
The idea of opening a restaurant has been mentioned before by Donaldson, who gave away free burgers in public areas and challenged strangers to eat them.
MrBeast Burger Launch
The first location of MrBeast Burger and the Twitter account was revealed on August 12, 2020. The location was in Wilson, North Carolina, in Donaldson’s hometown.
In the following days after the announcement, locations began appearing to users on delivery apps days before the official release.
He announced the new restaurant in a video and said he would be giving away cars, technology, and cash to people lined up around his building.
As part of the video, Donaldson advertised the chance for one lucky person to win $10,000. The YouTuber also gave out free food to people waiting in line.
There was a lot of hype surrounding the opening of the restaurant, with people waiting in line for hours to get their hands on some food, which all comes with a side order of free money.
On opening day it attracted thousands of customers — so many that the waiting line reached almost 20 miles, according to local news reports.
As you can imagine, that led to some extremely long lines at the restaurant so much so that a police officer had to come by and ask everybody to take their place back because the line was causing a traffic jam. The police officer also requested Donaldson to stop the line.
An official launch video was posted to YouTube on the same day, which reached over 3.5 million people. Donaldson announced that he would be opening 300 more locations across the United States in the next few months.
A portion of each order from the company will go to charity to reduce food security worldwide. The restaurant will also offer jobs for people struggling to find work during the pandemic and employ people with special needs.
Reception
Ahead of the opening and throughout the day, thousands of people lined up to get a taste of the new burger joint. The restaurant even had to temporarily stop serving customers due to high demand and long wait times.
The brand has gained popularity thanks to a series of videos from MrBeast that have amassed millions of views on YouTube.
The video reached the No. 1 trending spot on YouTube.
The MrBeast Burger app reached the top spot on both the Apple and Android app stores – the first day it was available.
The chain has over 2 million downloads in less than a week in the Google Play Store, according to Sensor Tower data. It’s also the No. 1 free app in the iOS App Store.
Not only did fans wait in long lines for food, but some customers had trouble getting through to order via phone due to the huge volume of orders.
The YouTube star’s move into fast food is notable because he’s been one of the biggest stars to emerge on the video platform during 2020. He has more than 200 million subscribers, and his videos regularly rack up millions of views.
Due to its surge in popularity, almost all of the locations reported running out of food on the first night.
After three months of opening its first location, MrBeast Burger sold over 1 million burgers.
